Cyprus in 2013
Windmill diving is the name of the center I had an agreement with. And every day we had at least 2 different dives, each of which is a story in itself of course. But a "highlight" was still diving on the "MS Zenobia", which is located one and a half kilometers from Larnaca harbor after sinking on the night of 7 June 1980 on its maiden voyage.
War equipment in the cargo
Officially, she was on her way from Sweden to Tartous in Syria with Volvo trucks and tractors for civilian purposes. But there are many stories surrounding this wreck that will probably never be answered.
Sabotage rumours
Rumor has it that the MS Zenobia was sunk as a result of sabotage to prevent the cargo from reaching its final destination. Rumor has it that in addition to Volvo trucks, trailers and tractors, which were painted military green even though they were allegedly designated as agricultural equipment, there were also guns from Bofors on board.
One thing is certain, and that is that after the wreck there was a lot of secrecy and traffic over the wreck for a long time.
Designed for new wreck divers
Today, the entire ship has been turned into a safe diving destination for relatively new divers, where glass panes and doors have been removed so that you do not get trapped. You must dive with an approved guide. I really recommend anyone who is slightly interested in wreck diving to add this trip to their todo list. MS Zenobia is on the list of the 10 best wreck dives in the world.
Video from the dives on Zenobia
I made that was filmed with a Gopro and without additional light.
